While more companies are exploring BESS as a natural extension of their solar PV experience, the business model is fundamentally different.
Grid connection studies, market operations, and responsibility boundaries all work differently from solar — proceeding with a solar-first mindset can easily lead to costly rework.
Drawing on his firsthand experience in legal and business support practice, the article explains the following three key rules:
- Rule 1 Involve EPC contractors from the grid connection study stage
- Rule 2 Select aggregators at the initial project stage, not just before commercial operation
- Rule 3 Establish a PMO to centralize responsibility boundaries and project management
For each rule, the article also covers typical failure patterns seen in practice and specific comparison points when selecting an aggregator.
